environment

The Pyramid Rock Festival is located on farmland looking over the pristine coastline of Bass Strait.

Given this majestic local environment, we're committed to reducing the environmental impacts of the Festival.   We’ve listed a few incentives we're working on and tips on how you can help us out:

The Penguin Foundation

The festival is a proud supporter of The Penguin Foundation, helping to protect one of Phillip Island’s natural wildlife wonders – the Little Penguins.  Our sponsorship goes towards restoring penguin habitat, rescue and rehabilitation, scientific study and the care of sick and injured penguins.  For more information on the foundation go to www.penguinfoundation.org.au

Carbon offsets

You can offset your festival experience by ticking the carbon offset box and paying an extra $2 when purchasing a ticket online.

Thanks to the punters who offset their festival visit last year - your small contribution really helped to make a difference.  Last

Recycling Bins

With your help we recycled 3.5 tonnes of cans & plastic last year!  Please help us to continue recycling by using one of the many hundreds of recycling bins located around the festival site.

We also provide clear recycling bags and black general waste bags when you enter the festival – these are for your campsite, and by using them you're helping to divert tones of waste from landfill.  Once the bags are full, take it to the nearest waste depot. Keep an eye out for cleaning contractors who will be handing out garbage bags to campers during the event. Please do your best for the local environment by keeping campsites clean.

Rubbish

It's fantastic to see patrons leaving clean campsites after the festival.  We provide both rubbish and recycling bags at the entrance gate to help you keep your campsite clean.  Once the bag is full, take it to the nearest waste depot.

Couches are banned at this year's festival, as truckloads of couches ended up in landfill last year.  Bring your camp chairs instead, and think about taking your camping gear home rather

Last year we planted over 20,000 trees around Australia to help offset our emissions.

Wristbands

This year we've done away with paper tickets and will be sending out wristbands directly to patrons.  That's a huge amount of paper, printing and power that will be saved compared to previous years, helping to further reduce our environmental footprint.

Drinking water

We encourage you to bring your own drink bottles and fill up any time for free at our drinking water taps located throughout the campground and near the entrance to the main arena.  Filling you own bottles not only saves you money but also saves the production of tonnes of plastic bottles.

than trashing it or leaving it to end up as landfill.

And finally, the cigarette butts you throw on the ground have to be picked up by someone else, so please use an empty film canister to collect your butts.

Glass

No glass is allowed in the festival grounds, including the campground.  It's a simple rule – no matter how careful you are, it can be broken, creating a dangerous hazard for fellow patrons.  The no glass rule includes things like salsa and vegemite bottles, so put these things in plastic before you arrive.

Share a lift to the festival.

An average size petrol car produces 533 grams CO2 per km travelled.  If you're sharing a lift to the Festival with another person, that's down to 276 grams CO2 per passenger, and with four people it's even less – just 138 grams CO2 per passenger per km.

Alternatively, you can catch public transport and buses from a range of locations. Please check back on the Venue page of this website as we post more public transport details as we get closer to the Event.
